Progress in the Danish economy – but public finances are weakened

The Danish economy is improving. Since mid-2013 almost 45,000 persons have gained private employment, and unemployment is down. Progress in the labour market is expected to continue, and GDP growth will rise over the forecast period. Public finances are, however, in a worse condition than previously expected. Hence, it has been necessary to reduce the fiscal room for manoeuvre in 2016. This is documented in the Economic Survey, announced by finance minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen.

Budget Outlook 3: Expected budget balance surplus in 2014

Today the Ministry of Finance publishes Budget Outlook 3, December 2014 which contains a status of fiscal policy and general government finances and central government finances. In 2014 a budget balance surplus is expected, and estimated public deficits in 2015 and 2016 are below the limit in the Stability and Growth Pact.

Budget Outlook 1: Denmark is expected coming out of EU Recommendation

Today the Ministry of Finance publishes Budget Outlook 1, May 2014 which contains a status of fiscal policy and general and central government finances. According to Budget Outlook 1 the general government deficit is estimated to remain below 3 per cent of GDP. Thus, Denmark’s EU recommendation is expected to be abrogated at the next meeting among the Economic and Finance Ministers of the EU (ECOFIN).
