The Danish Quality Reform

Improving and developing the quality in the public sector in the future
The Danish Structural Reform has lead to a solid organisational adjustment of the public sector. But despite the new good conditions of larger and more sustainable regions and municipalities, the public sector faces a number of key challenges. How can we improve and develop the quality in the public sector in the future? The task consists of finding new ways and methods that will make the citizens more satisfied.

One of the biggest challenges is to ensure sufficient recruitment in the public sector. One fourth of the public employees will retire over the next ten years. And these employees will be very hard to replace, since the younger generations are smaller than the older generations due to the low birth-rate in Denmark.

At the same time, the citizens’ demands to the public service will grow continuously with the growth of prosperity.

The public service must be made flexible in order to live up to the requirements from the modern family and working life of the Danes.

Therefore, in connection with the approved budget bill for 2008 the government has launched a comprehensive Quality Reform. This reform is made in order to secure the ongoing development and improvement in all parts of the public welfare service delivery. Learn more about the reform on the Danish website here.
