Preparations of ECOFIN Council Meetings at EU level

The ECOFIN Council meetings are prepared by committees, sub committees and working groups. Each member state and the Commission are represented at these preparatory meetings.

ECOFIN Council meetings are prepared by COREPER II (Comité des Représenta-tives Permanentes) and by the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC). At EFC meetings member states are represented by civil servants from Ministries of Fi-nance and Economic Affairs. The Commission and the European Central Bank participate in the meetings too. EFC assembles prior to each meeting in the ECOFIN Council.

The Economic Policy Committee (EPC) also delivers input to the preparation of the ECOFIN Council. The input is mainly on structural policy issues.

The Danish Ministry of Finance represents Denmark in both EFC and EPC.

COREPER assembles weekly and each member state is represented by its perma-nent representative to the EU and the alternate. COREPER is divided into CORE-PER I and COREPER II. COREPER II is responsible for the EMU, the EU Budget and institutional matters.
