Centre for International Economic Coorperation, Taxation and Financial Markets

The Division deals with issues related to international economic policy, in particular the economic cooperation in the European Union (EU) and structural analyses and policy briefs within the areas of taxation and government debt policy/financial markets.
The main responsibilities include issues concerning the European Union, coordination and preparation of Danish participation in the Council of Ministers of Economy and Finance (ECOFIN), European Council meetings, Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the euro, economic policy in the EU, intergovernmental conferences, amendments of the Treaty, and the enlargement of the EU.

Other areas of responsibilities are the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the OECD, and cooperation with the Nordic countries.

The Division functions as the secretariat for the Danish Special Committee on Economic Policy, which manages the interministerial coordination relating to the meetings in the EU – notably ECOFIN, the work in the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC), and the Economic Policy Committee (EPC).

The focus of tax policy analysis – which covers personal, business, property and consumption taxes – is to inform decisionmaking on tax issues taking into account distortions, income distribution and revenues. Key elements are how taxes influence the incentives to work, save and invest in physical and human capital.

The analysis in the area of financial markets mainly relates to the evaluation of alternative government debt financing strategies with the key objective of minimizing the governments' debt service costs at an acceptable risk level as well as other financial market issues.
